Experiences in Alta Skiing
Alta Ski Area is one of the most traditional ski areas in the USA, born in 1938 when they created the Collins Lift and in 1939 when the Watson Shelter, Alta Lodge, and Collins Chair were opened.
Since then, the Alta community has been growing, and they are proud to be one traditional ski school, with special experiences and all levels of skiing.
The natural attributes of the Wasatch Mountains are very old. The first nation leader, Shoshoni, named the mountain with the Shoshoni term wasattsi, meaning “blue heron”, and in the language of the native Ute first nations, Wasatch means “mountain pass” or “low pass high range”.
Have knowledge about the lake effect of Great Salt Lake. With the low relative humidity in wintertime and the high relief of the Wasatch mountains, it further capitalizes on lake enhancement and receives a high volume of precipitation, generating multiple feet of snow.
These phenomena generate snow with a dry and powdery texture, which we market as “the greatest snow on Earth”.
All that natural condition and the development of adventure winter sports by the ski resorts helped Salt Lake City host the 2002 Winter Olympics.
However, the location becomes famous, and throughout the winter season, people of all skill levels come to know and enjoy your winter experiences.
In the past, these places in Alta Ski Area were silver mining areas and were abandoned. The Forest Service hired Alf Engen to check and analyze the area to know the potential for winter sports because they saw the large amount of deep snow.
The Forest Service saw another way to help recover the environment of the Wasatch Mountains after the old impact of mining and create new jobs in sustainable development through winter sports.
Alf Engen was a famous Norwegian skier and, with your brothers Corey and Sverre, became pioneers in skiing and enjoying the slopes of the stunning place of the Wasatch Mountains in the Alta Sky area.
